Taking up Amritsar!

The city of Amritsar, India is the satin backdrop to India’s cultural diversity, being the home to the Sikh community in India, home to the Harmindar Sahib, popularly called the Golden Temple as well as historically and politically significant, owing to its strategic location.
The city is located near the borders of India and Pakistan, which is popularly known as the Wagah Border.

This post will provide you with an inkling of what you can do in Amritsar when you're up for a day!

The trip was to attend a marriage at Amritsar so I got just one day to explore this beautiful city, though I guess one day is sufficient for the place if you are not interested in seeing museums and war fields!

While cruising to this beautiful city, there are few places every nomad must visit, which all are listed below.

1. The Wagah Border
Wagah is the border lying on the grand trunk road between India and Pakistan. The Wagah Border ceremony is an elaborate ceremony that happens here every day at 17:00 hours, during the closing of the border gates for reaching on time you have to leave around 13:00 hours. It begins with the marching of soldiers, who end it by lowering the flags together, as a sign of unity, in diversity. It lights a flame of patriotism in every Indian who watches it and people are said to be moved to tears at the sight.

2. The Golden Temple.
The temple is a visual treat and amongst the most peaceful places, I have ever been to. It is actually made of gold and a must before 20:00 hours, as they have daily langars for the devotees visiting the temple, the food they serve there is so delicious! The air around the temple reverberates with a magnetism, and is open to all public, resonating with the ideology of Sikhism.

PEACE. It does not mean to be in a place where there is no noise, trouble or hard work, it means to be in the midst of those things and still be calm in your heart imagining wonderful things!

Durgiana Temple

Food:

Amritsar is famous for the Guru ka langar being conducted at The Golden Temple, serving around 40000 people a day. If you wish to eat something that comes from the heart of Amritsar you can try:

Amritsari Fish Tikka
Different varieties of Kulchas.
Jalebis
Lassi.

Amritsar specializes in these and one should try all of them once when in Amritsar.
